Alan's Positions

DEFENSE, HOMELAND SECURITY AND DISASTER PREPAREDNESS

I believe in a strong defense and will support policies that will enable us to maintain the security of our country.

I will support legislation devoting federal dollars to the State of Minnesota as a contingency to respond to terrorism and to enhance cooperation between the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Department and state authorities.

Regarding our manufacturing base, it appears that we are outsourcing manufacturing that could compromise our security as well as our economy. I will support legislation aimed at restoring and protecting our domestic manufacturing base.

Regarding the outsourcing of services, I will support legislation aimed at identifying and protecting key services (such as port security) that should be under the guidance of government and domestic corporations.

Regarding disaster preparedness, I will support legislation that would strengthen disaster preparedness leadership, planning and preparation.  This would include comprehensive regional disaster preparedness plans, the identification of authorized personnel to handle such emergencies, the determination of exit routes, medical support, law enforcement, food and shelter resources requirements, and evacuee absorption in the case that local services are disrupted.
