ABORTION STANCE

Regarding the abortion issue, I recognize that this issue is extremely sensitive and very heart wrenching for those who have opinions on the matter.  It is most difficult, in my opinion, for the woman who is pregnant and considering an abortion.  Abortion is legal because there are no clear cut answers that we can provide to say that in every situation we are correct in declaring, one way or another, that a woman is right or wrong in making this difficult decision.  Therefore, I support and will protect the law that gives the woman the right to make this very private decision herself.  But, a point of clarification: I am not in favor of abortion and I don't believe that the abortion option should be taken outside of the case of rape, incest, or the life of the mother being at risk.  In addition, I don't believe in turning the government into a force that will be policing this issue.  It sets a very dangerous precedent, a precedent that may also allow for our government to force the opposite side of this issue some day.  More important should be the focus on community values, on family values, and on education in this regard.

I firmly believe that the Federal government should not be involved in funding abortions.  There are people in this country who firmly believe that this is morally wrong and by using their tax dollars to fund these programs, they are forcing these individuals to support this effort.  Therefore, the government should come up with a plan that resolves this dilemma.
